Firm Rebar Price in Tokyo

Concrete reinforcing steel bar price is firm at 66,000 yen per tonne for base size with 19 millimeters diameter around Tokyo. The price between trading firms and general contractors increased to the level after local rebar makers increased the selling price by 3,000 yen in the month. The price is likely to keep firm under seasonal higher demand. Rebar makers expect the general contractors will start to secure materials for major building projects despite of the delay. The lead time of local rebar makers is near 3 months and general contractors try to secure materials earlier than before. Under the tighter supply, distributors passed the higher cost price on the reselling price. The distributors still try to increase the reselling price for better margin under firm demand. The distributors will seek higher margin to cover higher cost for the better delivery and other services around Tokyo than other areas. The market price is likely to keep firm under the pressure by makers and distributors.
