Flat Carbon Machine Structural Steel Price in Tokyo

Market price of carbon steel for machine structural use is flat at 100,000 yen per tonne for carbon steel (SC) and at 125,000 yen for chrome-molybdenum steel (SCM) around Tokyo. The supply balance is still loose under slower demand in the distributors’ market though the inventory decreases both at makers and dealers. The demand is expected to improve toward the better demand season. Daido Steel increased the selling price by 10,000 yen per tonne and others followed the move. The dealers try to find the timing to pass the higher cost price after April. The distributors’ inventory increased by 2.2% to 38,335 tonnes for carbon steel while the stock decreased by 4.4% to 17,846 tonnes for chrome-molybdenum steel in January from December around Tokyo, according to special steel dealers’ association. Makers try to reduce shipment for dealers to improve the supply balance. However, the adjustment could keep more time enough to lift the market price despite of the price hike pressure by makers.
