Japanese integrated steel makers are closing tinplate export price negotiation to increase by US$ 10-20 per tonne for Southeast Asian buyers for January-March shipment. Japanese steels offered around US$ 30 per tonne of hike to cover higher tin cost under tight tinplate supply with higher demand in China, Malaysia and Indonesia. However, they agreed to reduce the gain when China and other countries approach Chinese New Year holiday in February. Japanese steels try to increase the price again for April-June shipment to cover higher tin cost. The steels apparently agreed with buyers to increase black plate export price slightly for January-June shipment.
