Concrete reinforcing steel bar price is strong at around 66,000 yen per tonne for base size with 19 millimeters diameter around Tokyo. Rebar makers are raising their selling price and reducing the outputs and sales volume. The output and sales adjustment is for stable product supply when the makers are suffered from higher ferrous scrap costs and have the order backlogs for 3-4 months. The distributors are increasing their reselling prices toward around 69,000 yen per tonne for general contractors. The smaller dealers are also increasing the reselling prices. The wholesalers are concerned rebar makers’ producing and selling stances would not change for a while and seeking the price hike against general contractors.Rebar makers examine additional price hike in mid April or May toward over 70,000 yen per tonne, the highest level in 28 years. Ferrous scrap price is expected to exceed 40,000 yen per tonne. Rebar makers should advance their selling prices soon for better profitability.
