Concrete reinforcing steel bar price is strong at around 66,000 yen per tonne for base size with 19 millimeters diameter around Tokyo. General contractors are decreasing the orders to large dealers from April entering slow demand season. In addition rebar makers are decreasing their shipment before the revision of Japanese quake-resistance standards for buildings in June. Each maker is controlling rebar output and sales volume just as much as actual demand.Rebar demand keeps favorable. Keiichi Katsube, president of Kanto Steel, a major rebar maker around Tokyo, said that new orders are expected for many large building projects after June. Market concerns order decrease is temporary.Dealers aim to raise the market price to 69,000-70,000 yen per tonne. But the market price is expected to keep flat for a while.
