Firm Carbon Steel Structural Bar Price in Tokyo

Structural carbon steel bar price is firm at 100,000-100,200 yen per tonne for SC grade round bar and at 125,000 yen for chrome-molybdenum alloy around bar around Tokyo. The price is expected to keep firm under firm demand and output reduction by Daido Steel. Special steel makers and integrated steel makers announced more than 10,000 yen per tonne of hike and reduce the supply for distributors. With the lower supply, the distributors’ inventory increase slows down the pace. Daido Steel reduces the output by more than 10% from April when the ferrous scrap price surges. The firm apparently tries to improve the supply balance through the reduction along with the limited availability of scrap. The demand keeps firm for automobile and construction machinery. The demand is still slower in distributors market. However, the distributors cannot decrease the reselling price under the makers’ hike and output reduction.
