Ferrous scrap market price increased by 2,000-2,500 yen per tonne in June around Tokyo. The price is around 29,500 yen per tonne for H2 grade, 31,800 yen for H1 and 33,500 yen for HS when local electric furnace steel makers raise the purchase price to compete with rising scrap export price. Export shipment started to increase around Tokyo bay in June when East Asian buyers raised the purchase price. Local electric furnace around Tokyo increased the purchase price to encourage the scrap dealers’ shipment to them under tight supply in the market. Local scrap dealers also increased the purchase price to collect more scrap. Dealer sources said the dealers have to raise the purchase price to follow hikes by local steel makers. Local steel makers pay 35,500-36,500 yen per tonne for H2 grade and some pay as high as 37,000 yen. They try to keep the high price despite of decreasing consumption due to maintenance outage.
