Flat Plate Steel Price in Tokyo

Steel plate market price is flat at 82,000 yen per tonne for standard size with 19 millimeters thick, 5 feet width and 10 feet length and at 98,000 yen for cut processed materials around Tokyo. The price is likely to keep the level though the price could increase after supply gets tighter with higher demand for building. The demand is still slow both for dealers’ shipment and small sized plate processors’ activity. The major shearing processors can accept more order after the capacity expansion and they don’t have to ask commission processing to smaller processors. The building demand is delayed due to transition process for new building standard law. The domestic plate supply is expected to get tighter when the demand increases for contract users including shipbuilders and construction and industrial machinery makers. The plate dealers’ inventory is tight for standard sized materials while the processors have enough inventory to meet the demand level.
