Nippon Steel’s Thai wire rod processing center, Nippon Steel Bar & CH Wire (Thailand) tries to increase the domestic market share from current near 20% to 30% in 2 years under growing automobile demand, said managing director Kohzoh Uchida of Nippon Steel at the opening ceremony on Monday. The processing center ties to improve the presence as high valued wire supply base in Thailand by utilizing world no.1 cost and quality competitiveness of Nippon Steel. Nippon Steel launched the test production of the plant in September 2007. The plant started the commercial operation after quality certifications by local transplants of Japanese manufacturers. The plant pumps up the operation to 2,500 tonnes per month or 30,000 tonnes per year in 2 years. The plant plans to add 2 wire drawing machines to increase the output capacity to annual 40,000 tonnes. The plant eyes maximum monthly 6,000 tonnes of capacity depending on the demand.
