Japan Cable Makers and Dealers Try to Raise Price for Minor Items

Japanese electric cable makers and dealers are raising their selling prices of cables for construction market, especially for cables such as 300V vinyl cabtire ellipse cable (VCT-F) whose prices don’t reflect fluctuation of copper ingot price as frequently as major items such as cross-linked polyethylene insulated PVC sheathed cable (XLPE). Copper ingot price continued increasing in February but makers and dealers haven’t put upsurge on some items yet.Makers are offering hike for 300V VCT-F to adjust the price to 900,000 yen/t copper price level. Dealers seem to approve the hike. Dealers’ reselling price for 300V VCT-F is around 32-33 yen per meter for 2-core and 0.75 mm diameter size. Dealers would raise reselling price to around 35 yen after approval of makers’ hikes.Japanese cable makers and dealers mostly reflect fluctuation of copper ingot price by 20,000 yen/t for major items such as XLPE cable. On the other hand, for minor items such as VCT-F, they reflect the fluctuation by 30,000-50,000 yen/t.
