Firm Structural Carbon Steel Bar Price in Tokyo

Market price of mechanical structural carbon steel round bar is 120,000-122,000 yen per tonne for carbon steel for machine structural use and 154,000 yen for chrome-molybdenum grade around Tokyo. The price is expected to keep firm with pressure by potential price of the makers. The steel makers are expected to increase the selling price additionally to cover higher cost for ferrous scrap. The dealers expect 10,000 yen or more hike by makers.The demand is strong for automobile and construction machinery due to firm export. The special steel makers try to meet the strong demand by full capacity operations and by reducing some order from distributors but the makers cannot meet the demand. The dealers reported some delivery delay from the makers. A dealer source said the dealers’ inventory includes some stock out size and they expect the thin stock status could continue under limited supply from the makers.
