Flat Carbon Steel Wire Price in Tokyo

Carbon steel wire price is flat at around 148,000 yen per tonne for standard products with 4 millimeters diameter and 140,000 yen for commodity grade products around Tokyo.

The sales volume of wire makers and dealers is decreasing compared with a year earlier. They are trying to raise the selling price to reflect higher wire rod cost. Meanwhile, the users are requesting price cut to makers and dealers when ferrous scrap price dropped.

Dealers are offering price hike for wire products made from integrated steel makers’ wire rod, while they are seeking price cut against wire makers for the products using electric furnace’s wire rod.

Steel wire import decreased by 37.5% to 880 tonnes in September from a year earlier, according to Ministry of Finance. The import may increase if wire rod and wire product prices keep high level.
